PROJECT STATEMENT |
Collaborating with landscape architects and water resources engineers, this project explored how to optimize LID facilities spatial layout by establishing a quantitative method for advancing runoff reduction under the different construction cost conditions. Through coupling with MultiObjective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA) and Storm Water Management Model (SWMM), it develops a LID Cost-Benefit Analysis Model to visualize the layout and cost of LID facilities.
The output of the project includes both online and offline tools:
(1) Consulting: Our team can provide consulting services to LID projects under the online request. This includes, but not limited to: tool usage, condition and feasibility evaluation of LID facility, and site-based “higher-performance and lower-cost” LID layout.
(2) Training:By adopting the online toolkit, landscape architects can easily learn how to use the LCC calculator to get the Life Cycle Cost of their projects. Through a detailed online tutorial of our website, they can learn how to obtain the optimal LID layout with a quantitative method in the testing area. Also, they can easily obtain a set of plans by downloading an offline toolkit from the web, which includes detailed pricing and layouts presented in graphical form for decision making.
(3) Promotion and Education: The application of the framework into LID projects will not only contribute to increasing the quantity of LID practices and improving the quality of LID facility layout plan, but also promote the concept of “higher-performance and lower-cost”. Thus, it will encourage people to make full use of limited resources in a sustainable and efficient manner.
In doing so, we believe that the adaptive framework can help project owner, designers and engineers better quantify the cost and reduce the LID facilities. It will contribute to improving the resilience of cites to enhance the quality and quantity of LID practices worldwide significantly by coping with urban waterlogging and climate change. Also, it will contribute to promoting the idea‘higher-performance and lower-cost’as the core value of the project for UN SDGs.
